Three Legs is a wolf who fought Restful Wolf (then called Raging Wolf) and he got his name after his rear leg became useless after the fight. Three Legs had actually confronted Raging Wolf because the hunter got too close to his pack.

He tells this to Yakari when they meet, and tells him a story of his ancestors, the first wolves who formed the first pack and celebrated with a song they howled. However, not everyone enjoyed their music, that the sun set earlier than usual, plugging his ears with clouds whereas the moon rose to listen to the wolves' songs, and this ritual continued ever since during every full moon.

He later alerts Yakari that the wolves are threatening Raging Wolf and won't let him go unless he shows them respect. Yakari successfully convinces Raging Wolf to let go of his anger and give respect to the wolves.

• In the comic, Three Legs only pretended to have lost the use of his leg to fool Raging Wolf.
